“Virtual Assistant: the most human profession with the most misleading name”
A Virtual Assistant? No, I don't live in the cloud.
When I tell people I’m a Virtual Assistant, I often see them nod politely.
But you can see it in their eyes: “No clue what that means, but I’ll just nod along.”
One person asks if I’m like Siri.
Another assumes I can turn lights on and off like Alexa.
And some look at me a bit awkwardly, as if I might suddenly start talking in robot language.
So let’s clear up the confusion right away: a Virtual Assistant is not artificial intelligence, not a robot, and not some futuristic gimmick. It’s simply a human being. Real, flesh and blood. Someone who supports your business — but remotely.
What a VA is not
Let’s start with what you definitely won’t get:
- No robotic voice saying: “I do not understand your question.”
- No app that crashes every other minute.
- No inbox exploding just because you didn’t check it for a day.
A VA is not scary, not cold, and not impersonal. The word virtual makes it sound distant, but it simply means: I don’t sit in your office — yet I work closely with you.
What a VA really is
A Virtual Assistant is an administrative and organizational support partner who works remotely.
Sounds formal, right? But in reality, I’m simply the person who brings order to your chaos.
Think about:
- straightening out your schedule (without three meetings at the same time),
- taming your inbox (so you don’t drown in CC’s),
- taking over those recurring tasks that eat up your time every week (you know, the ones that keep coming back like weeds: you pull them out, and boom — there they are again).
And always tailored to you. Because no two businesses and no two entrepreneurs are the same. One might need help with customer communication, another with planning or invoicing. I don’t hand you a one-size-fits-all solution — I look at what you really need.
The real difference: what you get back
Sure, it’s nice when your schedule is under control and your admin runs smoothly. But that’s not the whole point. What matters is what you get back.
- Sitting at the dinner table with your family without thirty unanswered emails running through your head.
- Finally getting back to the gym without feeling guilty.
- Picking up a hobby that’s been gathering dust for years (yes, even that guitar in the corner or those paints in the closet).
- Spending an evening on the couch with a movie — instead of with your laptop.
Hiring a VA isn’t a luxury. It’s an investment in breathing space. It gives you the freedom to run your business the way you intended — and to simply live your life.
No reason to be afraid
Still, I notice some entrepreneurs feel hesitant.
“But… will you know enough about my business?”
“Won’t it feel too distant?”
Or: “Isn’t that a bit impersonal?”
Understandable. Because yes, it can sound unusual — having someone ‘remote’.
But believe me: I am anything but distant. I learn your business, I think along with you, I see where you get stuck, and I help you move forward.
In short: no robot. No distance. No algorithm. Just a human being who takes your business and your time seriously.
Let’s be honest
So no, I don’t speak in robot language.
I’m the one who makes sure you can finally say something other than: “Busy, busy, busy.”
